    Introduction

If you forgot your Canvas UMN password or if you need to reset it, there are several ways that you can do this. The first is to use the self-service password reset option on the MyU portal (https://apps.tc.umn.edu/campus-accounts/). This is an easy way to change your Canvas UMN password in a few minutes without having to contact customer service or wait for them to manually reset your account information.

Use Password Self-Service to reset your Canvas password.

You can use the following steps to reset your Canvas password:

    • Go to https://apps.tc.umn.edu/campus-accounts/ and select the University of Minnesota Twin Cities from the Institution drop-down menu.
    • Click Log In, enter your Internet ID and Internet Password (the same one you use to log into MyU), then click OK or Log In again if prompted by a captcha code on your screen; this will take you back in front of an empty page where all you need to do is type a new password for yourself!

    Go to https://apps.tc.umn.edu/campus-accounts/.

If you are having trouble logging in to Canvas, contact the IT Service Desk at 612-625-9000. If you are having trouble resetting your password and need to get help with this process, please contact the Help Desk at 612-624-HELP (4357).

You can also change your Canvas username by following these steps:

    • Click on “My Cambridge” from your My UMN homepage. On this page you will see a link labeled “Manage Users.” Click on this link or follow these steps: * From within the left column click either ‘Add User’ or ‘Edit User.’ You may also find this link by clicking on “Settings” under Leadership Menu > Administration > Users & Groups> Add/Edit User

Select the University of Minnesota Twin Cities from the Institution drop-down menu.

You can find the correct institution by selecting the University of Minnesota Twin Cities from the Institution drop-down menu. If you are not sure which one to choose, contact Canvas support for assistance.

    Click Log In.

    • Click Log In.
    • Enter your username and password, then click Log In.

Enter your Internet ID and Internet Password (the same one you use to log into MyU).

If you’re new to Canvas UMN, you might be wondering what the Internet ID and Internet Password are. The answer is simple: they’re the same ones that you use to log into your MyU account.

If you don’t know what your password is or if it’s been compromised, here’s how to reset it:

    • Go here: https://myumt.com/login/resetpassword
    • Enter your username, university email address and password. This will open up a page where it asks for either 1) confirmation of a duplicate entry or 2) if there was no duplicate entry found after checking all data sources (e-mail address lists etc). Once entered correctly, click “Submit Reset Request”. The next screen shows up asking whether or not this request should be sent immediately by e-mail (or later via SMS). If so choose “Send Immediately” then wait until an email containing instructions has been sent back from MyUMT

Scroll down to Reset My Password (Password Self-Service).

Scroll down to Reset My Password (Password Self-Service).

Choose a new password. Enter and confirm your new password. Click Change Password or Set an Initial Password, as appropriate based on the type of device you’re using, and then click Save Changes.

Choose a new password. If you forgot or need to create a password, click Set an initial password (Forgot my password).

If you’ve forgotten or lost your Canvas UMN password, use this feature to reset it.

    • Choose a new password that’s easy to remember but difficult to guess (we suggest using numbers and letters).
    • If you need to create a new account entirely, click Create an account.

Enter and confirm your new password, then click Change Password or Set an Initial Password.

Here’s how to reset your Canvas UMN password in a few minutes:

    • Enter and confirm your new password, then click Change Password or Set an Initial Password. The system will prompt you to enter a new one-time passcode that can be used to log in to the Canvas account with no questions asked (we recommend using this if possible). After entering this second code, click Continue and proceed through any additional steps necessary for changing all of your other passwords at once, such as resetting your Google account or UMN email address—or both! Your changes will take effect immediately so long as they’re done before attempting another login attempt on any device where you have access rights (e.g., PC)

After following these steps, the password will be changed instantly and the user can now log in to the Canvas account with the new password.

Now that you have reset your Canvas UMN password, you can log in. Here’s how:

    • Open up the Canvas website and make sure that it is running on a browser that has JavaScript enabled (for example, Chrome).
    • Click on “Sign In” in the top right corner of your screen, which will open up a pop-up window where you must enter in your username and password before clicking on “Sign In” again to complete this step.
